BIYAB

BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of Belgium (BIYAB) is the Belgian Iyengar Yoga association founded in 2010 by Willy Bok, Alexis Simon, Rita Poelevoorde and Dorothée Langlois Van Ophem.

This does not mean, however, that Iyengar yoga had not been disseminated and practised in Belgium before that date. Quite simply, the creation of the association seemed essential at the time to ensure the sustainable development and appropriate supervision of the teachings of Mr. Bellur Krishnamukar Sundara Iyengar (1918-2014), also known colloquially as Guruji.

The Belgian association is affiliated to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) based in Pune, India, and is therefore authorised to use its official logo (Hanumanasana). Luxembourg joined the BIYAB in 2017.

The association has set itself the following objectives in particular:

  • To promote the teachings of B.Y.S. Iyengar® in Belgium and Luxembourg, based on the highest standards of personal conduct and respecting the principles of civic-mindedness and service.
  • To organise all types of events (conventions, conferences, workshops, screenings, publications, etc.) likely to promote the dissemination and deepening of knowledge of B.Y.S. Iyengar®.
  • To organise the certification of Iyengar® Yoga teachers and to carry out their regular assessment in the manner described by the RIMYI.
  • To establish a national register of certified Iyengar® Yoga teachers.
  • To establish a national register of teachers authorised to train Iyengar® Yoga teachers.
  • To carry out research into the benefits of Iyengar® Yoga and to implement any project that would enable its wider dissemination.
BIYAB organises exams according to the certification system.
BIYAB provides props to materially support teachers.
BIYAB organises an annual convention for all its members.
'Yoga Sanghara' magazine is published annually by BIYAB.
